Affiliate marketing is a business promotion technique in which revenue is shared between a website owner and an online business. It is an Internet-based marketing technique through which e-commerce affiliates are rewarded for bringing in customers.

Pay-Per-Lead: In this form of affiliate marketing, whenever a client registers at a merchant’s website as a result of an advertisement on the affiliate’s website, a stipulated amount of money is given to the affiliate.

Pay-Per-Sale: In this method of affiliate marketing, for every sale resulting from the advertisements featured on an affiliate’s website, a share of the profit is given to the affiliate.

Business Promotion through Websites: Many websites offer reward-based purchase offers. They offer discounts and rebates to the customers who choose to buy online. Some of them offer free delivery services to the customers. Others feature product reviews and articles about products and services, thereby encouraging the readers to buy them. Some businesses prefer to use personal websites to communicate with their potential customers. Personal websites, have in fact, been a major contributing factor to the emergence of affiliate marketing.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing has led to the emergence of several online companies and Internet marketers. Rather, customers come searching for them!

Perhaps, there is a pressing need to standardize affiliate marketing strategies and practices.

They will also offer 1 on 1 "coaching" from the owners and a whole community of other marketers who vary in experience from newbie to seasoned pro.

There is only one way that is faster and more effective to learn affiliate marketing than membership sites and that is to hire an expert to mentor you. I totally recommend this method if you have thousands of dollars for start up capital. If not I suggest membership sites and personally recommend 1 of them. I am a member and in my opinion they are a newbies best shot at becoming a successful affiliate marketer, and you don’t need to spend anywhere close to thousands of dollars. I spend more going out for coffee in a month than I do paying for a membership.

The Affiliate Marketing Formula with Mathew Glanfield. Matthew Glanfield has had another very successful year in the afffiliate marketing game, Matt’s teaching techniques are creating quite a stir again with an onslaught of video lessons he is now offering.

Matthew Glanfield is the newest of the marketers that I recently discovered, another Canadian as well, go figure!! I liked his Affiliate Marketing Formula site so much, that I joined up for his crash course and I’m definitely impressed. I really like what he’s doing. On his site he gives video tutorials of setting up everything that needs to be setup to have a thriving affiliate marketing business. This really clears up a lot of things for people, especially if they are brand new to learning about affiliate marketing.

Many of the things that he’s teaching I did know already, but if I had to start over again I sure wish I would have discovered either Affilorama or the Affiliate Marketing Formula earlier. It would of saved me a lot of time in tracking down the exact step by step methods of setting things up. The problem that I find with a lot of training materials is authors will tell you what needs to be done, but, it is not actually shown right there in front of you. Thanx to streaming video this is starting to become a thing of past, if you find people like Matthew Glanfield.

Matthew Glanfield has been online marketing three years or so, probably a little longer now, but it wasn’t until 2005 when he really started to hit big. He broke the code as he says, to having success with affiliate marketing. If starting to pull in six figure incomes, is any indication, then yes I would have to agree with him.

I have absolutely no reservations about recommending these teachings to anyone out there trying to run a successful affiliate marketing business.

For anyone starting in affiliate marketing it is a great benefit to have a plan. Here are some points you need to highlight in your plan.

Affiliate Marketing is easier if you start with a marketing plan. A marketing plan is part of your business plan and is the foundation of your business. If you don’t have a budget, don’t give up. There are ways of promoting a product without having a budget. As time progresses and you start to make money then you can adapt your plan to take into account any changes you decide for paying for your marketing.
When you start writing your marketing plan you will ask yourself many questions and these will help define the path you will take. Think in terms of these questions being the building blocks of your business. They may change as your business becomes more successful.

Writing your first marketing plan may seem a bit overwhelming but persevere. Nobody need see it but you so there won’t be anyone to criticise it, say it is right or wrong or any other such comment.

There is no right or wrong to this. This is your business and your plan and you are the expert in knowing what you want from your business, the direction you would like to take and the projected future growth of your business.

One of my favorite ways of marketing my business is posting on various Internet marketing forums.

I currently post on approximately a half dozen forums on a consistent basis.

So why do I post on so many forums? Two reasons:

1. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping people.

People who have questions about Internet marketing, that’s who. People who have marketing problems they need solved.

And it just so happens, those people are my target audience. So for me, forum posting is also smart marketing.

So how do I find the time to post on so many forums and still complete my other projects?

It all boils down to effective time management. It’s as simple as that. Here’s my number one rule for effective time management:

Write that rule down and tape it in to your computer. Refer to it every single day. It will definitely help you manage your time more effectively and make you more money.

Now I’m not going to reveal what it is, but I have a special system I use when posting on forums. And I’ve become so doggone efficient at this method of marketing, on average, I spend less than 90 minutes a day posting on forums. That leaves me plenty of time to complete my other projects.

Besides, I’m a night owl. So I complete the majority of my projects at night, while everyone else is sleeping.

So how can you start profiting from forum posting?

First of all, go online and find a forum of interest to you – one that is relevant to the theme of your website or blog, if you have one. For example, if you go on Google and type in the words "Internet marketing forums", Google will present you with 134,000,000 pages. Typing in the words "small business forums" will bring up 145,000,000 pages. With so many different choices, finding a forum you like and are comfortable with shouldn’t be any problem at all.

Once you find a forum you like, lurk for a little while, until you get a feel for the forum. What does it mean to lurk? Lurking simply means visiting a forum and reading other people’s comments without actually contributing. Lurking is an excellent way for a beginner to get familiar with a forum.

Once you reach a level of comfort and familiarity with the forum, go ahead and register and introduce yourself to the other members. Start participating in the discussions. Develop a friendly relationship with the other users. Be sure to post your picture and write a compelling sig file. What’s a sig file?

A sig file is an electronic signature block that appears at the end of your post that includes your company name, your tag line or USP (unique selling proposition), and your preferred method of contact (either your web site address, your e-mail, phone number, etc.). I personally like people to visit my website, so I include my web site address in my sig file. If you don’t have a website, include your affiliate program link in your sig file.

In closing, and I can’t stress this point enough. The secret to profiting from forum posting is to post on a consistent basis. If you post consistently and provide accurate and reliable advice, you can quickly become a respected member of the forum whom visitors and members alike turn to for advice.
